We Are Doomed

I recently stumbled upon this article, which sums up my view on climate change and our existence as a species pretty well. I think we lost the game for our only space rock by making us dependent from technologies that make is inhabitable for ourselves.

To stop climate change from getting worse (even if we can’t stop it) we must stop using e.g. fossil fuels at once, completely, but we just can’t do that, because we still depend on it too much. It’s just too damn convenient. The dieselgate scandal already shows how car owners react if you try to forbid them to drive their car, even if it exceeds the allowed emissions cap and it’s not actually their fault. And that’s just a subset of car all owners.

“We’re doomed,” says Mayer Hillman with such a beaming smile that it takes a moment for the words to sink in. “The outcome is death, and it’s the end of most life on the planet because we’re so dependent on the burning of fossil fuels. There are no means of reversing the process which is melting the polar ice caps. And very few appear to be prepared to say so.”

‘We’re doomed’: Mayer Hillman on the climate reality no one else will dare mention
